Blanc Neige Swimsuit ver. by Kotobukiya

What, no NSFW tag?

That’s right, no exposed boobies in this post. But there is hot swimsuit action! This is probably one of my most anticipated of all the swimsuit figures I’ve order/pre-ordered recently – Blanc Neige from Tonk Taka/Segas’ Shining Worlds franchise by Kotobukiya. I’m glad to report Blanc has met my expectations and is a fantastic looking swimsuit figure. Read on to see more of the beautiful Blanc Neige.

Blanc Neige, from my very limited high school French I believe translates to ‘White’ ‘Snow’. Very fitting, or perhaps cliché for an ice witch. It’s interesting Blanc Neige here is listed as a Shining Winds character when usually she’s listed as a Shining Tears character. Maybe Kotobukiya is trying to make a distinction between this one and the pre-existing one from Max Factory. Or they’re cashing in on the recent success(?) of the Max Factory Shining Wind girls. Another peculiar feature is her hair length. Usually we see Blanc with short white hair whereas here it’s much longer – a change I very much welcome.

The figure itself is 1/7 Scale and stands about 23cm tall, so she’s not going to be towering over or dwarfed compared to Max Factorys’ swimsuit line-up. The illustration Blanc is based on is shown on the box with her sporting a purple bikini and pareo combo. ‘Pareo’ that’s a new one for me, my clothing knowledge goes as far as “hat, top, bottoms, shoes”.

5 Licensed by Sega, man I must be lucky.

Her choice of purple clothing is very fitting. Not too bright and not too muted, just a gentle soft purple. She’s got a calming yet sexy aura about her.

My first thoughts when opening the box were ‘she looks a bit rough’ and ‘what’s that horrid translucent plastic’. Her hair looked rough with visible bubbles in the paint, and the clumps were distracting to look at. But then when you step back and take a proper look at Blanc you begin to see just how beautiful she truly is. Sure Max Factorys’ girls look crisp and clean close up which is nice, but Blanc has a superior body sculpt and pose that really makes her stand out as a swimsuit figure. Plus I like her character design which allows me to easily overlook certain flaws that may annoy others.

It’s been a while since I last had a Kotobukiya figure so when I opened her up I was greeted by the sticky plastic they like to package their figures in. That means I had to work out how to remove all her pieces before I could display her. To take her pareo off you need to pull her in half about her bikini top. This is good because the seamline is invisible. The only issue I had is there’s nowhere to really grip and pull her in half, so it took quite a bit of wiggling to separate her. The pareo then just lifts off.

So for that reason we’re going start looking at Blanc without the pareo.

Something interesting with Blanc here is she comes already attached to her base using a screw. I wonder if she had leaning problems or they just wanted to make life easy for us. The downside to this is you can’t remove her from the base without undoing the screw.

The angles below are my favourite angles to view Blanc Neige from. The shadow/light transition across her face at these angles highlights her beautiful facial structure and features. I also like her pose. It’s similar to UBW Rin Tohsakas’ in that she’s in the process of turning. This is great since we can see all the good parts from one angle and don’t have to rotate her a lot.

I’m sure I’ve said this many times before but white/grey hair anime characters are usually my favourites in terms of design. So that already puts Blanc in a positive light for me. If she had a black bikini she would have looked smoking hot maybe with a gold or red trim, but the purple is nice too. It’s not in-your-face bright and obnoxious yet it’s not a drab looking washed out purple. The silver patterns jump out from the purple which is much more interesting to look at than just a plain purple too.

Her hair could have been a bit better I think. It looks rather clumpy here and the paint job is a bit rough. Although I imagine you will be spending most of your time staring at her front.

Blancs’ body sculpt is beautiful to look at. Her ribs and collar bones are slightly visible, her breasts are a perfect size, and her waist is slender.

I’m sure bum lovers will like these shots. She has a gorgeous rear which is further accentuated by her string bikini.

Putting her pareo back on I’m still not 100% sure I like it. I’m liking it better than when I initially saw it, although the transparent colouring looks odd and a bit tacky. It can look more like a plastic lump than an item of clothing at the wrong angles too. But when you do manage look at it from the correct angle it creates a completely different look for the figure. Without it she simply looks sexy in her bikini. With it she still looks sexy, but with a little more mystery. For now I’ll be displaying her with the pareo on since I can’t be bothered taking it off again.

If you were wondering how she looks next to the other Max Factory girls in the Shining Wind series she fits in quite well. Her scale matches and her overall aura doesn’t jar with the other Shining Wind swimsuit girls. There is however slight difference with the bases. The sand colour tone for Blancs’ is much lighter, although it’s hardly a game breaker.

Blanc also comes with an extra arm, rather odd I thought since on first inspection it looks the same as the one she comes with attached. So armed with that false knowledge I went on my merry way taking photos of her. Then I notice this lump sticking out of her thumb. I immediately thought it was a manufacturing error, just as well they gave me that second arm! Well no I was completely wrong. I later realised that the first arm with the lump is for use with her pareo and helps attach her hand to it, making it look as if she’s lifting it slightly. The second arm without the lump is for display without her pareo, derp on my part. Kotobukiya even give instructions on this, in Japanese if that counts as a defence?

To me this Blanc Neige is my current favourite figure rendition of the character, she might even be my favourite swimsuit character beating Alpha x Omega Villetta Nu. That’s a tough call though, both look stunning. I also really enjoyed taking pictures of Blanc. She simply looks stunning so I ended up with loads of them. Plus there’s nothing loose which can fall off, so it doesn’t become frustrating trying to rotate her at different angles. She does have a few flaws such as her hair where the paint is rather rough looking, but on the whole she’s a wonderful figure to own and look at.

I’m slowly acquiring a little collection of figure wallpapers it seems  . Here’s some for Blanc Neige:

  1. She has beautiful pink eyes and such a nicely detailed face.
The pose of her looks really lively, I like how her hand goes behind her head and her body looks very well sculpted. I like how the figure seems to reach out her hand for something, could be interesting when you would pose her together with another figure ^_^

The parero suits her very well so she isn’t only limited to be a swimsuit figure, albeit it is cool that you are able to cast it off. Purple is one of my favorite colors. Haha I didn’t expect that Blanc would wear a string tanga, the other shining tears/ wind character are too shy for that kind of dressup ;D Maybe Blanc is the hottie in shining … seems like she’s an quite alluring character.

    • Her eyes are without a doubt mesmerising. They’re an unusual pink/red/purple colour depending on how you look at them. Her soft face is also beautiful.

Her pose does look very lively, especially when compared to other swimsuit figures. I think it’s the positioning of her arms and the way she’s twisting round slightly that makes it look this way. Blanc is definitely flaunting what she has! Her body sculpt is probably the biggest draw for me. I would say she looks perfect in terms of body structure and all the little details look amazing. Plus she’s got a slightly toned skin colour which I like.

Haha, I don’t know what you’re thinking could be done with that stray hand :P .

The parero doesn’t drastically change her appearance but it certainly adds more variety. She’s kind of similar to Shining Winds Seena in that sense with the removable skirt.

Supposedly she’s the cold and distant type of character so yeah a thong is probably out of character. But then she is a Tony Taka creation.

  2. Pareo, so that’s what those things are called. I’ve always thought of them as half a dress for swimsuits.

I’ve noticed Kotobukiya does make good body sculpts, but the finer details like the hair and accessories need more work.

    • You learn all sorts of new terms for clothing collecting figures and reading other anime blogs. Since I have no interest in fashion though I’ll probably forget what it’s called and go back to calling it ‘that skirt thing’.

I’ll agree with you on Kotobukiya, great body sculpts but rough fine detail. I wouldn’t necessarily say that’s a bad thing since you usually don’t notice many of these defects from a normal viewing distance. Plus Kotobukiya output a variety of figures more frequently than other manufacturers.

  3. Blanc Neige sure is popular. I’ve always had the impression that this figure has been around for ages, but when I checked up on it I realized that it actually came out recently this year — that’s definitely a sign of there being a lot of Blanc Neige figures out there!

I like the pose of this figure, as you get a good view of sideboob and ass in the idea display angle. Like you, I’m not completely sold on the pareo either. It looks heavy and clucky, and besidies, I definitely would not want to obscure the view of her fine backside if i could help it!

By the way, what’s the lighting setup you used for these shots?

    • Oh yes, there’s oodles of Blanc Neige figures out there. Plus there’s that Houmei character and the one from Shining Hearts who looks similar. It also doesn’t help she already has a swimsuit figure released.

The pose is fantastic, everything you could ever want is on show from one angle. I’d say I’ve warmed a bit to the pareo, that or I’ve become numb to it’s presence. Ah ha, that’s why Blanc is lifting the pareo for us. She knows what we want to see and complies xD.

For almost all my shoots I use these cheap and cheerful desk lamps with different LED bulbs. For this shoot I used 1 5000K LED bulb and 1 single RGB LED set to different tones of purple inside a fully covered light box. Since my room is painted green if I don’t fully cover the box I get green shadows and tints creeping into my photos so I’m really using the light box as a means to isolate the figure from my room. The RGB LEDs I use are the same ones for my display case lighting. Sometimes I use 2 LED lamps, sometimes I use different colours to cover up the light box (eg black cloth instead of white), just depends.

  4. It looks like she came out pretty well, I was concerned with how she’d turn out with respect to quality and I also thought her toothy grin looked a bit odd in the preview shots. It looks like she came out a bit rough but that’s pretty typical for a 1/8 scale Kotobukiya figure, I think, so that’s no big deal. It’s good to see that she has a very pretty face, though; I was worried about that for a while. Now I just need to wait for Amiami to stop holding my figure hostage.

    • I wasn’t too bothered by the toothy grin when I saw the promo shots – I was more concerned about her skin tone. The promo shots made her look flat and washed out. I think the promo shots lack shadows which made certain things visible that are not visible when you see the figure in person (unless you blast her with a search light or something).

I think that’s a fair comment on Kotobukiya quality. As long as you know what to expect from them you won’t be disappointed. I think the overall quality for Blanc is fine, for me the body sculpt is what enticed me.

Hopefully amiami decide to free her. They don’t usually merge my orders, I’ve had 3 emails in one day asking for payment for different items – would have been nice to combine them for me but oh well :\.

  5. I think its a translation mistake well typo.
Blanche neige is more like it ^^

and she really is, stunning figure in which im suprised that i havent seen her on the web, especially being from Kotobukiya.

unfortunately due to the exchange rate, i have to restrain myself from spending even thought i kinda do have some cash ^^

    • You’re probably right, I’m just going off what little French I remember.

I’ve noticed that as well, not many people have picked her up. Maybe everyone is just fed up with Shining swimsuit girls.

It’s always a tough choice to decide whether to get that one figure you might like or hold off and get one you know you will like. I’ve done that with a few recent figure releases (Lat Miku and amiami Kuroko for example), although hopefully there will be reviews out there to enjoy them somewhat.

  6. Hi, I came across your site and wasn’t able to get an email address to contact you. Would you please consider adding a link to my website on your page. Please email me back and we’ll talk about it.

    Thanks!

    Joel Houston

  7. Blanc Neige is one of my favorite girls to see figures of ever for some odd reason. Tony Taka’s illustrations just translate to figures so well, and they’re all so super sexy. This one is gorgeous as well. Her pose is very elegant and seductive. Love her simple swimsuit, and especially love that skirt. Very nice review and photos! I really like it!!

    • Sorry for the late reply :( .

Blanc has a very distinct character design I think. Her cold yet sexy appearance is what grabs my attention anyway. For now I still enjoy swimsuit figures and the pareo adds a little variety if you get fed up with the simple bikini.

      Thanks ^^.

  8. I’m not too fond of the wraparound skirt either but its translucency looks nice. I just hope Koto will be more strict with their quality control so there wouldn’t be paint problems like your Blanc Neige’s hair. But she’s still lovely. How about an outdoor shoot next time? ^^

    • I’ve picked up a few figures recently with transparent plastics but I can’t say I like the effect all that much. The defects to me aren’t that bad, but you’re right Kotobukiya tend to have varied QC. At least they’re not Griffon bad.

Oh noes, not outdoors xD. My next few figures will probably be nsfw tagged again. Plus I’m still not sure I have the confidence to go outside and shoot pictures. Swimsuit figures are probably the easiest to take outdoors though – no loose parts to lose and finding some sand shouldn’t be too hard, even in Scotland, just got to hope it’s not raining.

  9. I bought her and was worshiping her like a true goddess until Kotobukiya puts up Urayukihime for pre-order… ugh, I don’t know if I should be sad or angry anymore.

    http://www.amiami.jp/shop/?set=english&vgForm=ProductInfo&sku=FIG-MOE-4307&template=default/product/e_display.html

Anyway, awesome shots, I wish I have a nice camera like you do :)

    • Yeah what’s up with Kotobukiya and re-using the same mold. They must have been disappointed with Blanc sales and decided ‘nuh uh, this mold ain’t going to waste’ or ‘no one saw our Blanc release, let’s sneak this one out’. The only differences are with colouration, accessories(+ribbons) and the ends of her hair.

I won’t be buying Urayukihime. I’m all for black bikinis but I’m not willing to buy two carbon copies of what’s supposed to be different characters.

Thanks^^. I started with a simple Sony Cyber-shot DSCW180 camera which I used during some work I did at a wind farm. I then picked one up alongside my first few figures and everything evolved from there. I’m not a huge photography nut – in fact I’d never touched a camera before the wind farm work. If you’re interested in experimenting with figure photography and have little camera experience I’d recommend a Compact Camera to make sure you enjoy it. My biggest worry and turn off from buying a DSLR was I’d get bored of this and have an expensive piece of imaging equipment and glass I don’t use. Luckily it hasn’t turned out that way :D .

  10. That position is definitely great! Tony Taka’s designs are great as always…:P

    • Yep, Tonys characters always look great. His older designs such as Blanc are the most interesting I think. The newer ones, Shining Hearts for example, feel a bit samey. Still, I’m not fed up with his style, yet :P .

  11. Guys can U give a a site selling figures that can ship trough philippines pls?
