Snow like?

Like most people across Europe we are getting heavy snow here. At the moment over 40cm deep snow is just lying around; blocking up the streets and roads.

I’ve been keeping track of this by taking pictures at various points, and I thought I would share some of them with you.

For us the snow started round about the Thursday evening 17/12. Nothing heavy, but it did stick to the ground. All the main roads in the area were gritted well, so there wasn’t much to worry about.

Woke up Friday morning to find quite a thick layer from over night. I had to go out in the car, and the quieter roads round about had a bit of snow on them. Just enough for me to experience skidding for the first time  . I thought I had missed putting the car in gear, then I felt the back of the car spinning round to the front. I slowed down after that. Getting home wasn’t a problem since by that time most of the snow had melted.

Woke up on Saturday to find this!

It started up again later and got quite heavy. Again because the main roads were gritted it wasn’t too bad; just the usual quiet roads causing a problem.

Sunday we got more snow, but not as much as the previous days. (Yay, on holiday from then on). Picture taken in the evening.

Monday next to nothing; by then it had started melting a little. Same for Tuesday.

The cat is engrossed by something; I wonder what it could be…

Then this morning!

Over 40cm. All previous footprints, car tracks, everything was gone. It was like someone put a giant white blanket over everything.

No one could get their car out the drive and schools were canceled. People were out trying to clear the roads, but then gave up after 2 hours or so. We managed to get our cars out; but getting them back up the drive when coming home wasn’t so easy. By now, even the main roads are being affected by the snow. Heavy disruption all across the area.

Caught a glimpse of the pink sky and got a picture.

When our dog goes on in the back garden she is totally engulfed by snow. You see small trenches appearing where ever she is, then suddenly she leaps out in to another mountain of snow. I wonder what it will be like tomorrow.

Had snow in your area? If so how bad has it been?

  1. A little snow is ok, but massive blanket of white is not. Wow, you got both cat and a dog as pets? Do they fight? OO;;

    • Got 2 cats and 1 dog (+ loads of other things).

1 cat is the boss, he “owns” the street basically. Kids are scared of him  and the other cats in the street avoid him.

The dog then occasionally fights with the cat in the picture, but the cat runs away so it’s more a quick scuffle. The dog wouldn’t even dream of attempting to fight with “boss cat”.

      • That scary the cat? I just got meet him and squeeze his tail. :D
Don’t worry, it my way getting to know a cat and yes, its common for to get scratched. Don’t worry. XD

  2. So there i say : yes to the snow. When there’s so much (40cm that’s enormous because here it rarely above 20cm) i find it marvelous and enchanted. Landscapes are amazing and you took some very nice photos.
Here in Belgium, everything already melted.

    • In Malaysia, we only have rain. And when there’s too much rain we have flood, which is bad. And now its the rainy season… Duurrr…

    • Still got snow here. Got a little on Christmas morning as well.

Then today the heater has lost power, so it’s freezing with more snow :D . It’s not as deep as it was earlier in the week, but it’s still sticking around.
